Oh, Mama
Were you frightened when Bush announced he had a direct line to his lord and savior Jesus Christ? Get a load of Mr. Obama who delivered the following remarks this past Friday to about 150 Latino Evangelical and Catholic clerics at the University of Texas at Brownsville. As excerpted from Jacques Berlinerblau's "Huckobama" in the Washington Post, March 4, 2008.
"...And during the course of that sermon, I was introduced to someone named Jesus Christ. I learned that my sins could be redeemed and that if I placed my trust in Christ, He could set me on the path to eternal life...
...And whenever I hear stories about Americans who feel like no one’s looking out for them, like they’ve been left behind, I’m reminded that God has a plan for his people. . . . But it’s a plan He’s left to us to fulfill...
... I’d like to begin with a prayer. It comes to us from Jeremiah 29, when the prophet sent out a letter to those exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon. It was a time of uncertainty, and a time of despair. But the prophet Jeremiah told them to banish their fear – that though they were scattered, and though they felt lost, God had not left them. “For I know the plans I have for you,” the Lord revealed to Jeremiah, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God had a plan for His people. That was the truth that Jeremiah grasped – the creed that brought comfort to the exiles – that faith is not just a pathway to personal redemption, but a force that can bind us together and lift us up as a community..."

Kelly, I love you madly!!! I just got a sneak preview of your latest Gay City News piece, "The Elites' Comeback With Obama" while I was proofing the ads in the paper, and you touch such a chord in my intellectual brain, that it hurts. You have just articulated so brilliantly exactly what I've been feeling for the past several weeks during the mass feeding of my sick election addiction. I can't wait until tomorrow when it's published, so I can email it to everybody, including my rabid Obama supporter friends with whom I've been viciously e-fighting for weeks. I've been reading your stuff for over a year now, and I devour each piece like Turkish Delight, as I feel such an affinity for your perspective. You make me laugh out loud, and howl with glee with your canny observations. And as a former study abroad fag and resident of the City of Lights, I love the Parisian twist you bring to your writing. I've been meaning to send you a babbling ode of adoration for months now, and why not on the day after Hillary's great victories to further my good mood? I look forward to indulging further in your great literary musings.
Best regards,
Matt L. (ad guy at Gay City News)

Hello, Kelly, het gal here who just wandered over because I saw your latest Obama piece at Gay City News, where I landed while following up on an unrelated story (queers in Iran). You are fantastic! You articulated EXACTLY what I feel about Obama, and so much better than I ever could. What a pleasure to read your essays and find its not just me and the handful of friends I browbeat on a daily basis who feel this way!
Especially the "shut yer trap" line in the most recent piece - I tell you, every time Hillary defies the in-crowd's peer pressure tactics, the more I like her (and I already like her an awful lot). Unity, conformity and social control are seperated by a very, very fine line. What we are seeing now is much more of the latter two and almost none of the former.
And don't get me started on all the Obama people who say "the one gracious thing" Hillary could do would be to "sacrifice her personal ambition" for the good of the party - because that's what old used-up women are supposed to do, right? Step aside so their sons can succeed? Only for a woman is sacrifice (read: giving up) a virtue and hanging tough a character flaw.
I'm really looking forward to reading more of your work. Cheers!
